As of May 2024, the federal government has initiated a new dental care program for Canadians called the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). This plan provides comprehensive dental coverage for many common dental treatments including cleanings and exams, fillings, extractions, root canals, and dentures — often at no cost to the patient.

Eligibility is determined based on an annual household income of under $90,000.
